Great post, Andrew. Thanks for sharing so vividly and descriptively. Am continuing to watch these WH initiatives, and am hoping that there is some intentional collaboration among these various offices - who are trying , via various means (maybe?) to get at similiar ends -- WH Office for Innovation, Office for Urban Affairs, CNCS, Intergovernmental Affairs, Faith-Based Initiatives. Seems that indeed the President knows its about innovation and what is working on grassroots and creative levels -- I think its also about some concerted, focusing of efforts and resources as well. We shall see...and (as we're "all in") we will also make it "be" the reality by doing our part.

What I find a little surprising is how little discussion there is of whether the government should be in this business. I don't know the answer, but I think it's an important discussion: Should government be allocating these resources or should those same resources be in the hands of taxpayers for them to allocate as they see fit? I'm a huge believer in many of the entrepreneurial organizations that were likely represented at the White House and will get funded through the Social Innovation Fund. It's more a question of what is the best thing for the health and growth of the non-profit capital market? What are the tradeoffs of the government playing grantmaker?

Its just great the number of significant others that are acceding to the acceptance that the true meaning of the so-called Social Entrepreneurship movement can only be found in lasting solutions to otherwise intractable social ills- man-made or nature-caused! Thanks for sharing this with us.

This is incredible; a political and social entrepreneurial junkies ultimate fix! Obama's statements highlight almost all of my biggest hopes and wishes for the coming years---that the "hidden gems" within the social good sector be given attention, that our leaders finally present to the American public that: "the best solutions don’t come from the top-down, not from Washington; they come from the bottom-up in each and every one of our communities."

!!!!

Thank you for your account, Andrew.
